On September 13, 2024, a landmark labor mobility agreement was signed between Germany and Kenya in Berlin, marking a pivotal moment for labor mobility.

Kenya was also honored to be the first African country invited as a partner nation for the German President's annual Bürgerfest in Berlin. It was a remarkable event where both leaders shared their perspectives on labor mobility and underscored the strong partnership between Germany and Kenya.

At the Bürgerfest, various organizations highlighted their voluntary efforts in supporting communities in both countries. Visitors also had the opportunity to enjoy authentic Kenyan cuisine and immerse themselves in the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Looking ahead, we are optimistic that the labor mobility agreement will be implemented successfully, creating win-win initiatives and with a focus not only on facilitating labor migration to Germany but also on creating jobs locally through initiatives such as outsourcing, support for training institutions locally, and skills transfer.

Several Kenyans in the diaspora have initiated projects and partnered with companies, universities, and institutions to support the implementation of labor mobility initiatives. AG-Career Hub is part of a research group in collaboration with HS-Koblenz and Mount Kenya University, focused on ensuring a sustainable pipeline of nursing professionals by recruiting young high school graduates to train as nurses in Germany.
