1. Apprenticeship Programmes (Ausbildungen) in Germany
Apprenticeship programmes (Ausbildungen) are training programmes offered in Germany for school leavers who do not enroll for degree programmes. Students enrolled for these programmes are employed in a company where they work partially and the rest of the time they have to attend schools. Depending on the type of the programme, students can either combine the work and train model weekly or blocked in months. The programme takes 3 years and students are paid a small salary. Requirements for apprenticeship programmes in Germany
- German language level of B2
- High School Certificate with a Minimum Grade of C- (KCSE).

2. Undergraduate & Master Degree Courses in Germany
Major requirements in Germany
There are several requirements needed to studying in Germany. It is recommended that you inform yourself early enough regarding the key requirements needed to successfully get the admission to the university of your choice. For visa applications, students must submit the financial proof on how they are going to finance their studies in Germany. The current requirements are either a blocked account with 11208 euros, a formal obligation (Verpflichtungserklärung) or scholarships. There are no scholarships for undergraduate programmes prior to studies in Germany.
2.1 Undergraduate Degree Programmes
There are a number of secondary school certificates awarded in other countries which qualify students to study at a university in their respective countries, but which do not qualify them to study at a German University. There are basically two types of requirements for undergraduate degree programmes in Germany.
Category A: Requirements with NO HIGHER EDUCATION ENTRANCE QUALIFICATION
This category is for students who have high school certificates that do not qualify them for direct admission for undergraduate courses in German universities. They must attend the preparatory college (Studienkolleg) which takes 2 semesters for them to have the requirements needed for direct admission.
- Requirements to apply for the Studienkolleg:
- Highschool grade with a minimum of C+ in KCSE (Requirements from Kenya - KCSE)
- German Language Skills of B1 or B2
- Financial Proof of either a blocked account with 11208 euros or a formal obligation. There are no scholarships for undergraduate programmes prior to studies in Germany.
- Admission letter from either the university or the Studienkolleg
CATEGORY B - Requirements with DIRECT admission
This category is for students who qualifies for direct admission for undergraduate courses to German universities:
- Requirements for direct admission:
- Highschool grade with a minimum of C+ in KCSE (Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education)
- German Language Skills as from A2 (depends on the programme)
- Diploma from a recognised institution or first degree
- Academic Transcripts for 1st year from a recognised university.
2.2 Master Degree Programmes in Germany
- Highschool grade with a minimum of C+ in KCSE (Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education)
- Degree (Second Upper Classification) from a recognised institution. Substantial work experience is considered in some cases
- German Language Skills (depends on the programme)
