The recognition reflects a collaboration that began in 2022, when AG Career Hub facilitated the establishment of a partnership between Mount Kenya University and Hochschule Koblenz in Germany.

From university partnership to career opportunities

Following the establishment of the partnership, AG Career Hub organized a Career Fair at Mount Kenya University in 2023, bringing together students, German universities, organizations, and professionals from Kenya, Germany, and Austria. The event covered a wide range of topics, including education and apprenticeship opportunities in Germany, career pathways, migration and legal support, business opportunities, scholarships, and professional programmes. A particular focus was placed on creating direct connections between students in Kenya and professionals who had already taken the journey to Germany.

The Kenyan diaspora in Germany as a bridge

Professionals of the Kenyan diaspora in Germany joined the event to share their personal experiences of studying, working, and building a life in Germany. Their stories provided students with first-hand insights into the opportunities as well as the realities of moving abroad. The event also gave us the opportunity to meet and engage with the first cohort of nursing students preparing to begin their apprenticeships in Germany. Through presentations, personal testimonials, mentoring, and networking sessions, students were able to interact directly with universities, organizations, and Kenyan professionals living in Germany and Austria.

A partnership with lasting impact

The collaboration between Mount Kenya University and Hochschule Koblenz has since developed into a pathway creating tangible opportunities for Kenyan nursing students. To date, 81 nursing students have successfully made the transition to Germany through this pathway.

For AG Career Hub, this recognition from Mount Kenya University is particularly meaningful because it acknowledges the value of bringing together universities, students, the Kenyan diaspora, and institutions in Germany to create sustainable education and career pathways. What began in 2022 with the establishment of a university partnership developed in 2023 through student engagement, career fairs, mentoring, and diaspora involvement – and has since created real opportunities for 81 Kenyan nursing students in Germany.

We are grateful to Mount Kenya University, Hochschule Koblenz, the Kenyan diaspora in Germany, and all partners and professionals who have contributed to this journey. Together, we continue to build bridges between Kenya and Germany – connecting education, people, and opportunities.
