At AG-Career Hub, we believe the role of the diaspora goes beyond building our own professional careers. It also means sharing knowledge, creating connections and making the pathway into the German labour market easier for others.

For many international professionals, understanding the German labour market can be challenging. Having the right qualifications and experience is one thing; knowing how the recruitment process works and how to present your profile effectively is another.

This is why, at AG-Career Hub, we believe that the Kenyan diaspora in Germany has an important role to play: building bridges between international talent and the German labour market.

One way we do this is through closer engagement with recruiters, companies, universities and other key stakeholders.

Bringing the German Recruiter’s Perspective to the Community

Our collaboration with Katja Theuerkorn, Founder of Speak German. Get Hired., an experienced recruiter with more than 20 years of experience in recruitment, has been a valuable part of this work. Katja was one of our keynote speakers at the 6th Annual Career Meetup in Frankfurt and has continued to support our community by sharing her practical experience through two Career Insights sessions.

The first session took place on 28 May and focused on an important question for many international professionals: What are German recruiters really looking for in international candidates? The second session, held on 28 July, built on this topic and focused specifically on German CVs – this time from the perspective of a recruiter.

The sessions addressed practical questions such as:

  • What catches a recruiter’s attention within the first few seconds?
  • How can international professional experience be presented clearly and effectively?
  • Why are concrete results more valuable than a long list of responsibilities?
  • Which common CV mistakes can cause qualified candidates to be overlooked?

One of the key messages was simple: Having the right qualifications is not always enough. Your value also needs to be visible and easy to understand.

For many international professionals, this perspective can make a real difference. Understanding how recruiters approach applications can help candidates present their experience more effectively and communicate the value they can bring to an organisation.

The Role of the Kenyan Diaspora in Germany

These Career Insights sessions demonstrate the wider value that diaspora networks can create. We do not need to have all the answers ourselves. What we can do is connect people with those who have the knowledge, experience and networks that can help them move forward.

This is why partnerships with recruiters, companies, universities and other key stakeholders in the German labour market are so important. Through these collaborations, our community gains access to practical knowledge, new perspectives and professional networks. At the same time, recruiters and companies have an opportunity to better understand the experience, skills and potential of international professionals. This creates value on both sides and builds bridges.

From Networking to Meaningful Connections

At AG-Career Hub, we want to continue creating spaces where mentoring, knowledge transfer, talent mobility and partnerships come together.

Our goal is not simply to organise events or share information. We want to create meaningful connections that can lead to new opportunities, better understanding and stronger professional networks. For us, the role of the Kenyan diaspora is therefore not only about building our own careers and networks. It is also about making the path a little clearer and more accessible for those who are coming after us.

A special thank you to Katja for her time, openness and willingness to share more than 20 years of recruitment experience with our community. These connections make a difference.
